On 15 Sep 1861 when James Monroe was 21, he first married Mary Elmira Bowen in Home of William Barnes, Washington Twp, Randolph Co, Indiana. Born in Mar 1844. Mary Elmira died on 12 May 1876; she was 32. Buried in Arba Cemetery, Randolph County, Indiana.
